"STROMBERG Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek Valley 2005 Score: 90 | $55
Tobacco, cedar, dried currant and mineral form a tight band of complex flavors that gain depth and nuance, keeping a firm focus, with well-structured tannins. Best from 2009 through 2016. 385 cases made. -J.L."

Wine Enthusiast gives Stromberg Vineyards 90 points

The Wine Enthusiast
Online Buying Guide
90 Stromberg Vineyards 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Dry Creek Valley); $55.

Shows the dry tannins and herbal quality that so often mark Dry Creek Cabs, but that also distinguish it as unique. You’ll find black currant and cherry flavors awash in sage, tobacco, black pepper and even Chinese five-spice notes. The tannins are firm, but smooth, suggesting moderate ageability. December 31, 2008.

Very Highly Recommended

2005 Stromberg Cabernet Sauvignon, Dry Creek Valley ($55):

Lovely aroma featuring smoke (from oak), black fruit and a dried herb note for complexity. Aeration gives the wine a plush, complex nose. Good structure … age only 4-6 more years.

Review by Paul Root, Root Wine Cellars

Stromberg Vineyards 2005 Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Dry Creek Valley

Impression:

Attractive, sumptuous presentation; vertical, painted, large cream-yellow “Stromberg” in casual calligraphy style font; closure is fine quality cork printed with matching logo; “Produced and Bottled by” and TTB requirement in white courier; standard flat-black capsule.

Appearance and Nose:

Very dark, clear purple/blue with red tinge color, odors of ripe Cabernet grapes, August blackberries, wildflowers, pastry spices, tar and cedar.

Mouth:

Rich, tongue and palate enveloping flavors of blackberry, Danish licorice, currants, cocoa, over-ripe Bing cherry, cedar, vanilla and black raspberry framed by balanced, sweet oak; lush, creamy texture; medium to full tannin, super clean finish leaving traces of tobacco, red-flesh plum, black cherry, fennel and Sandalwood spice. The wine has superb dimension.  You’ll not regret opening next weekend however the flavors and components will homogenize and evolve if given a few years in the cellar. One of the finest Dry Creek Cabernets I’ve ever tasted.
